Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. In this month Muslims offer fasting. Ramadan is the month of blessi Fasting in the month of blessing. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims offer fasting and extra prayers in the month as according to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) doors of heaven is opened in the month of Ramadan and the devils are chained up.
The timing of fasting starts at dawn and ends at sunset. As the timing of dawn and sunset is different in different parts of the world there for the timing of fasting is different in many parts of the world. For instance, in summer Muslims in some parts of the world have fasted for 22 hours while in other parts of the world this time is 11 hours. The meal Muslims takes at the time of starting fasting is called sahur or sehri. And the meal taken in the evening at the end of the fast is called iftar. Between these two meals, Muslims are prohibited from eating, drinking, smoking or having sex.
Ramadan is an essential part of Islam. Therefore, in Muslim countries, office timing during Ramadan is changed. There are different laws in Muslim countries for Ramadan. For example, it is against the law to eat or drink publically during the fasting time in Ramadan in many Muslim counties.
Different Muslim societies celebrate Ramandan in different ways. Muslims prepare special dishes for sahur (sehri) and iftar. Hotels and restaurants offer different packages and meals for Ramadan. The attendance of Muslims highly increases in mosques in the month of Ramadan. Muslims offer the prayer of Taraweeh every night after the isha prayer.
